Boise’s J.C. Penney Survives First Round of Bankruptcy Closures
I've got a soft spot for J.C. Penney and that's why I was actually sadden by the news that the company filed for bankruptcy.
I have such great childhood memories of going back to school shopping with my mom and grandma at Penney's. Arizona brand clothing was the coolest. My sister and I also loved going through their Christmas catalog over and over again, pig-earing everything that we hoped Santa would bring us. The idea of the store created so many fun memories for my family and I just going "poof" is a bummer.
Luckily, the iconic department store will be hanging around the Treasure Valley a little while longer. USA Today revealed the initial list of 154 J.C. Penney closures late Thursday evening. Idaho will lose their Penney's locations in Lewiston and Ponderay, but for now the locations the mall location at Boise Towne Square and free standing location at the Nampa Gateway will remain in business.
USA Today explains that the chain said it would close 242 locations nationwide, so we can't say confidently that our local stores are totally safe so enjoy them while you can!
