When Will Boise’s Fall Colors Reach Their Peak in 2019?

I can't pinpoint the moment that it happened, but I'm pretty sure it was shortly after I graduated from college and "summer break" didn't exist in my vocabulary anymore. Fall quickly became the few months of the year that I longed for.  College football, pumpkin spice lattes, apple cider, pretty leaves...does it get much better? Not in my world! I thrive in the fall and that's why it was so important to me that we got some of the Treasure Valley's fall colors in our engagement photos a few years ago.  If you're hoping to work them into your family photos this year, check out this preview of when fall foliage could hit its peak so that you can book a perfect date for that shoot!

September 21 - September 27

Ada, Canyon and Elmore Counties will see minimal changes in leaves. Gem County will have some more colorful patches.

September 28 - October 4

You'll start to see more colorful patches of leaves in in Ada, Canyon and Elmore counties. Trees in Gem County will show off partial fall colors.

October 12 - 18

Leaves are now considered near peak color in Ada, Canyon and Elmore counties. Gem County county is in to prime time when it comes to fall colors.

October 19 - 25

Ada, Canyon and Elmore counties are now in prime time! Trees in Gem County are past their peak color and are ready for winter.

October 26 - November 2

That's it folks! Trees in our region of the state are now considered past their peak for fall colors.

Information from Smoky Mountains, which notes that it's nearly impossible for a tool like this to be 100% correct but they do take into account temperatures, rainfall, etc while making their map every year.  It's interesting to note that everything shifted up about a week from 2018 to 2019 here in the Treasure Valley, probably due to having the sixth driest meteorological summer on record.
