One of Idaho’s Only Remaining Drive-In Theaters Announces 2024 Opening Date
For movie lovers in the Treasure Valley, one of the most exciting seasons of the year is just around the corner! We’re not talking about spring, we’re talking about drive-in movie season.
When it comes to enjoying the retro tradition of catching a flick at the drive-in, Idahoans are pretty spoiled. There are still six fully operational drive-ins in Idaho. DriveInMovie.com says that per capita, that’s pretty impressive. In other states, the ratio of drive-ins to residents is one per one million. The way things are right now, that ratio is about one to 330,000.
The numbers will look even more impressive in 2025, when the Spud Drive-In Theater completes its re-building project. In 2022, high winds ripped through Driggs and toppled the historic drive-in’s screen. They had hoped to reopen by 2023, but there was a change in ownership and the project was pushed back.

Local News 8 in Idaho Falls reports that MD Landscaping and Nursery now owns the theater, so it shouldn’t surprise you that the vision doesn’t just include a rebuild of the screen. They’re hoping to make it a real community gathering place and naturally, that includes a big change in the landscaping, adding new cabins to the property and building a new concessions building. The Spud Drive-In’s project is currently going through the permitting and zoning process.
Caldwell's Terrace Drive In Announces 2024 Opening Date
The other theaters are in Grangeville, Rexburg, Soda Springs, Parma and closer to home in Caldwell. Caldwell’s Terrace Drive-In has announced their opening date. The attraction plans to open for the season on Friday, April 12!
When the theater opens, movie goers will have a new concession option. The theater is bringing in Tiki’s Shave Ice and Bar, which will offer 32 flavors of shaved ice AND beer, wine and champagne slushie options.
The theater hasn’t shared which movies will play opening weekend, so make sure you check their website for showtimes in April. Most of the ticket prices are the same as last year:
- Adults: $10
- Seniors (60 and over): $7
- Kids (4-11): $4
