It's almost Christmastime in the Treasure Valley. Usually, that means family, snow, Christmas movies, light displays, a weekend in McCall, tree lightings, crowded parking lots at Boise Town Square, and the Village at Meridian, and Christmas parades all over the valley. This year, many of our family favorites have been cancelled, so I guess that leaves us with family, snow, and Christmas movies.

I thought it would be fun to match up some of our favorite characters from Christmas movies with Treasure Valley cities, based on personality. Keep in mind that this is supposed to be fun, so if you disagree, I'd love to hear what character you think is a better fit.

Boise - Clark Griswold (Christmas Vacation)
Like Sparky, the City of Boise can be a little temperamental and can occasionally overreact. While the greatest dad in Christmas movie history can be easily distracted by Christie Brinkley, Boise can easily be distracted by fancy new buildings and ridiculous growth. Ultimately, both Clark Griswold and the Capitol City may have their issues, but they seem always to have their family or citizens in their best interest.

Meridian - Buddy The Elf (Elf)
If Buddy the Elf were to fit in anywhere, it would be Meridian. There is such a perceived innocence to Meridian. People are friendly, seemingly in a good mood, and there are breakfast restaurants on every corner that probably serve the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns, and syrup.

Star - Kevin McCallister (Home Alone)
This comparison is mostly about the size. Star isn't the biggest place in the Treasure Valley, but it is growing up right in front of our eyes, just like McCauley Culkin did when Home Alone came out in the 90's.

Kuna - Ralphie Parker (A Christmas Story)
Ralphie isn't very big either. He would dress up in cowboy outfits, rabbit pajamas, and a hideous leg lamp in his living room. Kuna has plenty of rabbits (some are currently for sale on Craigslist) and a big country bar, where people go to show off their legs. It's perfect!

Garden City - George Bailey (It's A Wonderful Life)
Not a lot of people gave George Bailey a chance. His hopes and dreams were destroyed, yet he keeps going. When everything is stacked against Garden City, they keep going! Home to Expo Idaho and many motels that look like they're are straight out of the '50s. Garden City continues to grow. Now a massive apartment complex is potentially in the works!

Nampa - John McClane (Die Hard)
Tough, stubborn, and doesn't care what anyone thinks. That's Die Hard's John McClane, but it's also a great way to describe Nampa. While the rest of the Treasure Valley was locked down, Nampa kept on being Nampa. Yippy Ki-Yay!

Caldwell - Cousin Eddie (Christmas Vacation)
I mean no disrespect, but this is a great comparison. Would Cousin Eddie live in Caldwell? YES, HE WOULD! Like Eddie, Caldwell is all about family, has a lower cost of living and a big heart just like everyone's favorite Christmas Vacation character.

Eagle - Ebenezer Scrooge (A Christmas Carol)
Before you get offended, this is not about being mean; it's about being rich!
