Several locations around the Treasure Valley are participating in this Saturday's National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, and if you've got unused prescriptions medications you'll be able to drop those off between 10 am and 2 pm.

The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day happens each year, and the goal is to keep prescription drugs from getting into the wrong hands and to cut down on prescription drug abuse. The DEA’s Take Back Day events will be happening across the country this Saturday, and we have several places in the Treasure Valley that will be collecting the meds, no questions asked.

The Drug Enforcement Administration lists these locations as drop sites on National Prescription Drug Take Back Day:

BOISE POLICE DEPARTMENT with DRUG FREE IDAHO at the ADA COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE - 7200 Barrister Drive

BOISE POLICE DEPARTMENT with DRUG FREE IDAHO at FRED MEYER GARDEN CITY - 5425 West Chinden in Garden City

MERIDIAN ANTI-DRUG COALITION with MERIDIAN PD at BLUE CROSS OF IDAHO -  3000 East Pine Ave. in Meridian

You can drop off any prescriptions that have expired, or that you just don't want or need anymore.

The DEA shared these facts about the October 2018 collection:

Total Law Enforcement Participation: 4,770
Total Collection Sites: 5,839
Total Weight Collected: 914,236 lbs. (457.12 Tons)

All of the drugs collected will be properly disposed of by the DEA.
