A LITE-FM Christmas Wish for Beth
LITE-FM's Christmas Wish is back, thanks to our friends at Pioneer Federal Credit Union. Our 19th wish went to Beth, a newly single mom who's in need of a medical test that she can't afford.
When your doctor says the words "we have something to be concerned about here" how do you react? For most of us, our blood runs cold and our heads start spinning about what the next few months or years of our lives has in store for us. It becomes hard to focus on what they're saying, but you know that more testing is required to reach an accurate diagnosis. Labs and testing are expensive, but at least your insurance will cover it, right?
That's not the case for Becky's sister, Beth. Beth's already trying to get back on her feet and navigate the waters as a single mom. Her husband lost his battle with lung cancer in January and unsure what to do, she and her 16 year-old son moved from Orofino back to the Treasure Valley to be closer to family. They were able to help her find a job as a bus monitor with one of our area school bus companies but when the school year's over, there's no work for her and no income coming into the home.
Thanks to the stress that she's under, Beth's developed some medical issues and her insurance covers very little of the care she actually needs. There's a history of cancer on Beth's side of the family as well and when she found a lump near her jawline, the doctor decided he wanted to take a second look to make sure that it wasn't a tumor. To do that, he wants to do an MRI, which is not covered under Beth's insurance.
The holiday season should be filled with excitement, but instead it's been full of worry for Beth, not knowing whether the lump is cancerous or not. Her son's just lost his father and she wants to be there for him as long as she possibly can.
That's where a Christmas Wish miracle happened! The angels at the Imaging Center of Idaho heard Beth's story and volunteered to cover the cost of her MRI to help her get some peace of mind before the holidays! Jeff Connell got in the Team Subaru of Nampa Forester Delivery Sleigh to deliver the good news as well as lunch from Soup Kettle Grille so that Beth got a break from cooking and passes for Winter Garden aGlow, Wahooz and Pinz New Year's Eve Party and tubing at Gateway Parks so that she and her son could spend some quality time together.
