Every state has cities where the money seems to flow more easily than others, and the spot in Idaho that has the most trouble getting on its financial feet is less than an hour's drive from Boise and has a population of about 2600.

24/7 Wall Street looked at cities with populations under 25,000, and concluded that Homedale is the poorest town in Idaho.  It's got a population of 2595 an it's a 45 minute drive to the west of us if you head out on I-84.  The median income is $24,250 and the poverty rate is 40%.

The poorest town in the United States is Macon, Mississippi, with a median income of about $18,000, according to 24/7 Wall Street.  The poorest town in Hawaii is better off than most of Mississippi, with a median income above $50,000.  There's your apples to tangerines comparison.

The median household income in the state of Idaho, by the way, is $47,861.  That's probably something you and your co-worker don't talk about every day.

Idaho is a big state, with hundreds of big businesses and several top-producing companies set up here.  There IS opportunity in the Boise. We're not the richest city in Idaho, but not the poorest either.

And the cost of living here is way better than Hawaii.  There's that!
