When it comes to visits with Santa, Cabela's might not be the first place you think about taking the kids to see the man in red but if you've been to their Santa's Wonderland before you know it's a really special experience for the kids.

In the past, the section of the store they transform for the experience really looks like you've taken a trip to the North Pole. Santa waits near a log cabin for kids to run up the red carpet and give him a big hug. Behind him sits a snowy landscape of decorated trees and reindeer friends. While kids wait for their visit, there's craft and coloring stations for them to enjoy.

2020's been such a tough year that it's no surprise that Cabela's customers asked for the tradition to come back. The outdoor retailer said "ok" and sat down at the drawing board to figure out how to pull it off. The plan is finalized and Santa will make the trip from the North Pole to Franklin Road in Boise this Saturday!

Santa's Wonderland will look a little different this year. First of all, you'll have to book your visit with Santa ahead of time through Cabela's website. Those are available to book up to six days in advance and once you're confirmed, they'll send you a confirmation to show at check-in.

You can expect the same pretty set-up, but Santa will sit behind an acrylic 'Magic Santa Shield' so that the visit is contactless. Families will undergo a temperature screening before entering the Christmas themed area. Santa's helpers will be wearing face masks and cleaning all surfaces between visits.

Since Ada County is under a mask mandate, guests are expected to follow those guidelines. There won't be any in-store crafts.

Yes, change hasn't been fun and a lot of us are becoming burnt out on it but let's focus on the positives that come with the work that Cabela's put in to bring Santa to Boise! Families receive a FREE studio quality 4x6 photo and digital download that they can share on social media. While there won't be any crafts in store, families get to grab a take home craft kit while supplies last. Those will be perfect for the next time your kid tells you "I'm BORED! There's nothing to do!"

Want to visit this Santa this weekend? There's a handful of visits still available Sunday, November 8-Tuesday, November 10. Click HERE to book your time! Remember, reservations and pictures are FREE!
