There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that life as a first responder is unpredictable and tough. When duty calls, first responders have to be prepared for anything that stands between them and protecting our community. Blaine County first responders rose to that call, going above and beyond in a way that shows they are among the best in Idaho.

In a recent post to their Facebook page, Blaine County Sheriff’s deputies shared that they responded to a “motorcycle crash involving injuries on Dry Creek Road near Carey, Idaho.” When the deputies arrived, they quickly realized getting to the victims would be extremely difficult according to the Facebook page for Blaine County Sheriff Idaho:

“Due to the steepness and remoteness of the crash location, the victim was difficult to access by first responders and the responding ground ambulance had to be staged approximately 3-4 miles away.”

That’s when first responders stepped up and grabbed their own personal vehicles in heroic fashion to transport personnel to get to the victim, 26-year-old Paul Thomas Klimes who had “serious but non-life-threatening injuries.”

That’s right, they used their own personal vehicles. No matter the situation, Blaine County first responders get the job done and what do they post next? That they’re hiring and they even posted the wage they’re offering that ranges from $30.08 to $33.69 depending on experience with full benefits.

So, Blaine County Sheriff’s deputies go full bad ass, risking their own personal vehicles to save a life then let everyone know: “If you want to be the best, you have JOIN the best.”

Call me biased because of this story, but if that doesn’t prove that Idaho is home to the most elite first responders in the country, I honestly don’t know what will. That’s not to say that we don’t have our own amazing first responders in Ada County! Shoot, just last February, two patrol deputies, Dylan Sklar and Sean Dalrymple dove into a literal freezing pond off Eagle Road to rescue a woman who was trapped in a sinking vehicle.

Let this serve as a reminder for all of us to thank a first responder when we encounter one out in public. These men and women go into work every day with the willingness to do whatever it takes to keep us safe and it's stories like these that prove it. The world can be a crazy place but we’re all very lucky to be able to go to sleep at night knowing that we’re being protected by the best in the country.
