My friends know that 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays after Christmas, Halloween and FitOne.

Honestly, I have an entire section of my closet made up of red, white and blue outfits.  I'll wear a different every day of the week leading up to 4th of July.  The funny part about that? I was never one for over the top 4th of July celebrations until I moved to Idaho years ago.  I quickly learned that people in the Gem State are pretty hardcore about doing the 4th of July right with parades, barbeques...and your occasionally dangerous fireworks celebration. (Crouch, we know you're toning it down for 2018 but we'll never forget the time you went viral thanks to the New York Post and the video they got their hands on.)

But just how patriotic is Idaho? According to a new report from Wallet Hub, Idaho is the FIFTH most patriotic state in the entire Union!  How did they determine that? On the military service side, they looked at the number of military enlistees, active-duty military personnel and number of veterans.  On the public service side, they looked at the number of Peace Corps volunteers per Capita, volunteer rate and volunteer hours per resident. They also took into account the percentage of adults who voted in the 2016 presidential election and a few other factors.

So who out America-ed Idaho? Here's a look at the other states in the Top 5:

  • 4. South Carolina
  • 3. Wyoming
  • 2. Alaska
  • 1. Virginia
