Very soon, you won't be able to get on a plane using a driver's license. Fortunately, the process you'll need to go through is something you're already doing!

Starting October 1st 2020, you will need what's called a "Star Card" in order to fly commercially. It'll also be what will get you into a courthouse. This is due to the Real ID Act which passed all the way back in 2005. Sergeant Bryan Lovell, of Bonneville County Sheriff's Office, explains:

A lot of fake ID's, a lot of information out there portraying themselves as other people. It's tied to terrorism and criminal activity and things like that.

Star Cards are now available throughout Idaho, and you'll get it at your local DMV, the same way you'd get a driver's license. When you do, be sure to bring identification like your social security card and proof of residency. Thankfully, you don't need a Star Card to purchase alcohol, so cheers to that!
