A LITE-FM Christmas Wish for Ken
LITE-FM's Christmas Wish is back, thanks to our friends at Pioneer Federal Credit Union.
Joyce wrote to us about her ex-husband, Ken. At the age of 26, Ken was in a terrible car accident that paralyzed him from the shoulders down. After the accident, the doctors told the family that with the damage he suffered to his back there that there was a very real possibility that he wouldn't live more than 10 years.
Flash forward 30 years and Ken has defied the odds. While it certainly hasn't been easy at times, Ken's managed to live a pretty fulfilling life after the accident. He owns his own home and with a little help from family members with day-to-day tasks, is pretty self-sufficient.
Unfortunately, his handicap-accessible van is aging and is in need of repairs. He's nervous to drive it anywhere because if it breaks down somewhere, he's stranded and stuck inside. That's left him pretty isolated at home and that's no way to spend the holidays, let alone any other time of the year!
So, Joyce reached out to us in hopes that we could find a mechanic that would fix the van at a discounted rate because as much as Ken's family members want to help get this van back on the road, none of them are in a position to financially help right now.
Thanks to Rich and his incredible team at Christian Brothers Automotive in Meridian, we were able to do one better!
Holly, one of our delivery elves, huddled up with Rich's crew from Christian Brothers and went to deliver some very exciting news to Ken! (Click play to hear the surprise!)
