While I was at a blanket making workshop on Saturday, one of the other gals in the class asked if I knew where any good Halloween displays were at. I knew just the place to send her.

About six years ago, William Higgins had the dream of finding every Christmas display near him in one place without having to spend endless hours scrolling through Facebook and Google to find them. He decided there had to be a better way to find all of that information in one place and took it upon himself to build it! He took the information he found, made a Google map listing the addresses of current displays an shared it on Boise's subreddit.

It wasn't until this week when I was reading William's history of the project that I found out I was indirectly involved in helping the map take off. I included it in a blog post that was shared across all of our sister stations and that's when the map started getting thousands of views a day. In 2018, he expanded the efforts to not just list the best Christmas decorations in the Treasure Valley but Halloween as well!

William's done a phenomenal job being the keeper of all things Boise Christmas Lights and building fun driving routes for families. That's why we're sad to see him go! He announced via the Boise Christmas Lights Facebook page that he's accepted a new job in San Antonio and will be moving in November. He's handing over the reins of the map and Facebook page to someone already well known for being a Christmas light junk, Shannon Luthy of The Shannons' Light Show in Meridian.

Before he goes, he's working on the 2020 Halloween Map! The map shows the locations of haunted houses, corn mazes and the spookiest home displays in the Treasure Valley. When available, the map includes a picture and description in addition to address for home displays!

You can view the 2020 Halloween decoration map HERE. If you've decorated your home and want to be added to the map you can submit your information there too!

From all of us at Townsquare Media Boise, we wish William well on his next adventure! THANK YOU for bringing so much joy to the Treasure Valley through your project and passion for Christmas lights!
