This Weekend Around Boise: Corned Beef, Cowboys & Corn Dogs
The Western Idaho Fair opens its gates for another 10-day run. The Caldwell Night Rodeo heads into its two biggest nights. There’s free live music at Bogus Basin, food trucks and music in Nampa, and Idaho’s Jewish Festival returns in Boise.
In other words, if you spend the entire weekend sitting at home saying there’s nothing to do, I’m not sure I can help you.

Here are some of the best things happening around the Treasure Valley Friday, August 21 through Sunday, August 23.
When Does the Western Idaho Fair Open in Boise?
The Western Idaho Fair officially opens today (Friday, August 21) at noon at Expo Idaho.
Opening day comes with a pretty nice deal, too. Bring a non-perishable food donation for the Boise State Food Pantry between noon and 4 p.m. today, and you’ll get into the fair for free.
Otherwise, adult admission at the gate is $12.
The fair continues throughout the weekend, with gates opening at 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Sunday is also Armed Forces Day, with active-duty military members and veterans receiving free admission with a Military ID or DD214.
And, of course, once you’re through those gates, all bets are off when it comes to how much fried food and ice cream potatoes you’re going to eat.

Caldwell Night Rodeo Wraps Up With Its Biggest Nights
The Caldwell Night Rodeo finishes its 2026 run this weekend with two of its biggest nights. Friday is Patriot Night, followed by Championship Night on Saturday.

Gates open up at 5:30p, with the Jr. Rodeo starting at 6:30p. Opening ceremonies begin at 7:45 p.m. both nights, with the pro rodeo beginning at 8.

Where Can You Find Free Live Music Around Boise This Weekend?
You can head up the mountain Saturday for another Music on the Mountain at Bogus Basin.
This week’s lineup features Scott Pemberton, Mondo Pondo and RUDY, with the music beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free.
That makes this a pretty good option if you want to escape some of the heat in the valley, listen to live music and spend an afternoon at Bogus without buying a concert ticket.
Free Concert in Nampa
There’s also free music Friday night in Nampa. Sunshine & Soundbites begins at 5 p.m. Friday at the Lakeview Park Amphitheater with live music and food trucks.

Deli Days Returns to Boise Sunday
You want a great corned beef sandwich? Deli Days, Idaho’s Jewish Festival, returns to Congregation Ahavath Beth Israel in Boise beginning at 11 a.m.
Admission is free, with food and beverages available for purchase.

The event celebrates Jewish culture and, perhaps more importantly for anyone arriving hungry, gives you an opportunity to get your hands on traditional deli favorites.
Deli Days traces its history back 40 years to 1986.
There’s Even a Duathlon in Boise Saturday Morning
If your definition of a fun weekend involves considerably more exercise than mine does, the Wild River Dash Duathlon starts at 9 a.m. Saturday at Esther Simplot Park and Quinn’s Pond.
The event combines running and paddling around one of Boise’s most recognizable recreation areas.
One More Cultural Celebration in Downtown Boise
Saturday evening, JUMP hosts Indonesian Cultural & Heritage Day beginning at 5 p.m.
The free event celebrates Indonesian culture and gives Treasure Valley residents another option if they’re looking for something different from the fair, rodeo or concerts dominating the weekend.
Between all of that, I have my work cut out for me... Corn Dogs, Ice Cream Potatoes, Corned Beef Sandwiches, Music, Rodeo, and did I mention Corn Dogs? Looks like I'm going to be eating my way through the weekend!
