McDonald's is rapidly rolling out their new touch-screen kiosks which means no more walking up to the counter to that friendly face who asks you how they can serve you today.  Instead, we'll walk up to a computer, push a button or two and swipe the old credit card to get our grub.

According to Bloomberg Technology, McDonald's has been falling behind some of the other fast food chains like Dunkin' Donuts, Wendy's, Burger King, Taco Bell, and KFC with delivering their food in a timely manner and this is one of the steps they're taking to help remedy that problem.  But is this a remedy or is this a recipe for disaster?

Tech-savvy youngsters will most likely be able to whip through this in seconds giving Ronald McDonald exactly what he's looking for but what about people who are not familiar or comfortable with technology?  Grandparents, parents, and a lot of others have issues with this kind of stuff.  How long is it going to take them to figure out exactly how to order a Big Mac meal?  I can't tell you how many times I've had to help someone out who's trying to get a coca-cola out of one of those machines with multiple sodas that pour by the touch of a button.

Another thought.  What if I want Big Mac sauce on my Quarter Pounder?  Does the kiosk have a button for that?  Also, are some employees losing their jobs or are their job descriptions just changing?  If they are losing jobs, how many are losing their jobs?

Bottom line, change is inevitable and yes, necessary.  Always has been, always will be.  It may be difficult for us to accept but we may actually like the changes once we've become accustomed to them.  And then they'll change it again.  Ha!

No word on exactly which McDonald's will be first or when this will happen but be prepared.  It's coming and it's coming quickly.
