Idaho Announces New Punishment For People Who Owe Child Support
There are a variety of ways to get someone to catch up on what they owe in child support... and then there's the Idaho way.
Idaho Department of Health & Welfare Has Had Enough
The Idaho Department of Health & Welfare has "had it up to here" with unpaid child support and in a recent press release, the state of Idaho reported a whopping $130 million in past due child support.
To combat this problem and help Idaho kids get the support they need, they've taken steps to strip parents who are behind from enjoying some of the best things about Idaho - the great outdoors.
The Idaho Department of Health & Welfare announced on Friday that they will be "raising minimum child support payments required to maintain hunting and fishing privileges when a parent owes past due child support."
The department says the $130 million owed affects 24,251 child support cases. The Idaho Department of Health & Welfare Director Alex Adams said in the press release:
The point here isn’t to suspend a license, but for Idahoans to pay their child support. This is an important tool that the department uses to make sure Idaho’s kids are given the support they need to thrive and succeed. With this change we’re defending Idaho children by ensuring their needs are prioritized over a delinquent parent’s recreational privileges
It makes a lot of sense when you think about it. Why should a parent have the luxury of enjoying a hunting or fishing trip when their child is struggling without their support?
What do you think of this new policy? Is it enough to get parents to pay past-due child support? Let us know your thoughts here.
