For most kiddos in the Treasure Valley, we're in the last two weeks of school.  That means either camp, daycare, or the need to add summer activities to the schedule soon.  Here are some great free options.

We've already told you about the schedule for local pools and given you the heads-up on free movie nights in Boise, Meridian, and Nampa.  Now, here are a few other ideas that you might want to include in your plans for summer family fun.

  • Boise Parks and Recreation staff are providing free supervised drop-in programs all summer with their Mobile Recreation Vans.  These will be in effect June 5th through August 18th.  The staff will offer field games, art projects, and even provide healthy snacks at local parks and even some apartment complexes.  Take a look at their schedule HERE.
  • Have you ever considered working on your ice skating technique during the summer?  It could be the perfect time.  Idaho Ice World has a few "Learn to Skate for Free" and "Try Hockey for Free" programs that will be available for both boys and girls (ages 4 and up).  Adults can also participate.  Registration and rental skates will be available for free, but there are limited spots.  Find out more or sign up HERE.
  • It wouldn't be summer without splash pads, and Boise Parks and Recreation plans to open up the Borah Splash Pad in time for this Memorial Day Weekend.  Comba will be opening up in the near future as well.  If you want more on either splash pad (or Boise Pools programs), you can check them out HERE.

It feels like there are a lot of options for families across the Treasure Valley, and these programs are welcome additions to our summer plans at my house.  Hope they help you out as well.
