Emma Mertens isn't asking for much.  She's 7 years old and was recently diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor, and she's also an animal lover who wants a letter from your dog as she fights her battle.  This is a great project for the kids.

Emma's story is going viral, and so far she's received more than 50,000 letters from folks around the country. So many that the family is feeling a little overwhelmed, but they're encouraging us to keep the posts coming online.

I'm always looking for ways to get my daughters involved in projects that will help make someone's day, and this is a good one.  Emma isn't asking for much -- just letters from dogs and their people, along with pictures and videos so she has some original entertainment to keep her mind occupied as she fights her battle against a nasty brain tumor that doctors can't surgically remove.  The least we can do is help brighten Emma's day as she inspires us all on her journey.

Emma's dad, Geoff, says they're getting about 2,800 emails each hour and mail by the truckload, all with pictures and videos of pups from around the US and now from several other countries too.  Emma's family was featured on Good Morning America last week, as the news continues to spread this week the flood of mail will keep coming.

The family said it's getting hard to keep up with all of the letters and emails, so the best thing to do at this point is post a picture to the Facebook page that's been set up for Emma.  She loves dogs, and our pups here in the Treasure Valley can be part of the campaign to keep Emma's spirits at a peak as she goes through radiation therapy.  You go, Emma.

The family's GoFundMe is up too, and the family talks more about the tumor.  They said Emma went from having a normal weekend playing with friends in the snow and wrestling with her brothers, to getting a headache and having flu-like symptoms, and then a few days later she was rushed into surgery to reduce swelling on the brain.  Medical expenses are big, and so far the account has raised well over six figures to help Emma's family.

If the pups only knew how much they were helping too.
