How many of us looked at the CDC's recommended guidelines for when and how to wash our hands before the coronavirus outbreak became a thing? 

For the vast majority of us washing our hands comes as second nature after using the restroom, but to prevent yourself from getting sick they also recommend washing your hands at the following times:

• Before, during and after preparing food
• Before you eat
• Before and after caring for someone who's been vomiting or suffering from diarrhea
• Before and after treating a cut or wound
• After changing a child's diaper
• After cleaning up a child who's recently used the bathroom
• After blowing your knows, coughing or sneezing
• After touching animals, animal feed or animal waste
• After handling pet foot and treats
• After touching garbage

How long should we wash our hands? The CDC says that 20 seconds will do the job and they've put a ton of research into picking that number. That number has long been their recommendation, but you're seeing it all over the internet because of coronavirus fears.

While we're sure people would understand you asking Siri to set a 20 second timer while you're scrubbing, you may feel a little awkward doing that in public. To time it out without being super obvious to those around you, you can hum Happy Birthday two times through. Lifehacker.com also suggests running through the 90s jingle for Bagel Bites a few times.
