The State of Idaho Probably Owes You a Heap of Cash
Well, last week's get rich quick scheme was a major fail. You didn't really expect to win Idaho Lottery Million Dollar Raffle, but it sure would've been nice to have some extra cash to pay off those holiday bills.
Say no more! Did you know that in the Gem State, nearly 1 in 2 Idahoans have unclaimed money or assets waiting to be claimed. In fact, the state paid out over $5.4 million of unclaimed cash in 2019 alone.
How does that money end up in the hands of the state? Most commonly its because someone made an error or completely forgot to update their address following a move. Get married or divorced? Your money may have gotten lost when you changed your name. Death of the cash's owner is another way the money ends up in the hands of the state.
Thanks to a 2012 tweak to the Idaho Code, there's no deadline for you to claim your money. The state is simply the cash's care taker. They'll keep it safe until you realize its yours but their ultimate mission is to reunite the unclaimed money with the person it belongs to!
We took a look at this a few years ago and while there was no money waiting for me, my husband had over $100 waiting for him! He filed a claim and got the money.
