Construction on Highway 55 to Cause Delays

It's going to be a beautiful weekend in Idaho, and if you're thinking about heading up to McCall to enjoy the sunshine...it might take you a little longer to get there. According to KTVB, the Idaho Transportation Department will be kicking off a project this week that will cause some long delays on Highway 55.

From Thursday, May 9 through the end of June, a section of Highway 55 will be reduced to one lane. The project -moved up because of the condition of the road- will take place "from milepost 91 to milepost 97, near Smiths Ferry." Crews will have to close one lane throughout that 6-mile stretch of the road. This closure, according to ITD, could cause delays of up to 30 minutes.

According to KTVB, the roadwork will be done to repair "old worn out pavement." Crews will be hard at work for nearly two months to repair the road base, then they'll be laying down fresh asphalt.

Luckily the work will be done during the workweek, Monday through Friday. So, it shouldn't affect your weekend travel plans. The project was originally scheduled to take place in 2021, however, an ITD spokesman said, "the deterioration went much faster than we anticipated."

Thankfully, ITD, had the $4 million it would take to fix the roads, so they pushed the project up. The work will kick off this Thursday, it will stop every Friday at noon, and continue at midnight each Monday.
