We’re not even a full month into 2025 and Boise’s already found itself on another “best” list. This time around, it was all about job opportunities in the Treasure Valley. 

That’s something that hits close to home for me. It was a job opportunity that brought me to Boise fresh out of college. Many people in media aspire to get experience in smaller or mid-sized markets like Boise and eventually move on to bigger opportunities. I thought I’d follow that path too, but here we are 15 years later still in Boise. That’s by choice, not for lack of opportunity.

WalletHub Has High Praise for Boise on “Best Cities for Jobs” List

After analyzing 180 cities and 31 one different indicators, WalletHub ranked Boise pretty high on a list on their “Best Cities for Jobs 2025” list. Yes, two of the important indicators they looked at were the number of jobs available and unemployment rates but they also considered things like the variety of jobs available, risk of jobs being replaced by automation, how enthusiastic employees were about their jobs and overall job satisfaction.

They also considered thighs like a city’s median annual income, commute times, cost of living and other socio-economic factors. When all was said and done, Boise ranked #22 overall. It’s overall ranking was driven by a #6 rank in the socio-economic categories. 

What Is Boise’s Workforce Like Now?

According to the Idaho Department of Labor’s most recent Occupational Employment and Wages Survey, about 372,470 make up the Boise City Metropolitan Statistical Area’s workforce. That includes employees working in Ada, Boise, Canyon, Gem and Owyhee counties. When you examine all of their paychecks, the median annual income per individual is $45,320. 

We wanted to know what types of jobs people in our area were working, so we took a deep dive into the survey to find out what those jobs were and how much they pay. Here’s how things shook out.
