As I was driving to work this morning, minding my own business, I looked up at my rearview mirror to find the grill of a lifted pickup truck. I don't know if there is a term for the type of tailgating I was experiencing, but it wasn't comfortable. This person was clearly in a hurry, so I moved to the right to let them pass. It wasn't more than a few blocks before I looked in my rearview mirror again to notice yet another person on my bumper! I don't think of myself as a slow driver, so I checked my speed, and I was doing 40, five miles over the speed limit.

This isn't an isolated incident. I have been experiencing this on Parkcenter Boulevard for the past year or so. I'm not sure if this road is now being used as a test course for Firebird Raceway, and I missed the announcement, or people are just really late. Perhaps there is a post-pandemic baby boom in progress, and everyone is rushing to the hospital.

I'm pretty sure, however, that none of that is true. The truth is most likely that people are speeding on Parkcenter because they can get away with it. This is not a section of road that I ever see the Boise Police patrolling. I just wish that people would use a little more common sense. Keep in mind that people are passing two different schools in this area, with several others within a few blocks of the road. There are neighborhoods with kids, plenty of pedestrians going to parks, and bikers headed to and from the Greenbelt. I've seen plenty of geese and deer crossing the road as well.

If you regularly drive this stretch of road, please use caution. You wouldn't want to mess up your precious truck with the lift kit or your expensive SUV by hitting a deer. You certainly wouldn't be able to live with yourself if you ending the life of a child or their parents because you wanted to get to or from work two or three minutes faster.
