When I was young, I didn't know anything about politics.  I just knew that President George H.W. Bush was a friendly face and a good person.

That's probably why at the age of 4, I didn't take the news that he lost his bid for re-election well. He was a humble statesman and the ultimate family man. That's why this news is hard to pass along to you. NBC News has confirmed that George H.W. Bush passed away at the age of 94 this evening.

President Bush experienced multiple hospital stays in recent years, including one for pneumonia in January 2017 which kept him from attending President Trump's inauguration.

He lost his wife, Barbara in April of 2018 and was hospitalized again just days after her passing.

This is a developing story and we'll share more as memorial services are arranged.
