We may have just finished Christmas but that's not stopping scammers from continuing their criminal assault on unsuspecting Idahoans who are still in the holiday spirit. Plus, we're about to enter a season that will have scammers salivating at the mouth.
Here comes scam season - er... tax season!
With technology continuing to advance and social media gaining access to more personal information than ever before, 2023's tax season will be the time when Idahoans (and just everyone in general) need to be on their toes.
According to a survey from First Orion, 53% of people say that they have received more scam calls in 2022 than in 2021. Even more terrifying? They estimate that total losses this year can be as high as $40 billion. Let that sink in for a moment - $40 BILLION.
So, what's happening in Idaho?
Scammers are out in full force in Idaho and just recently, the Idaho Department of Finance warned Idahoans of a scam that involves receiving a "paycheck." This phone paycheck often comes with instructions on how to get your money but with shady strings attached.
Another scam involves an actual letter arriving at your home that looks like it's from Ada County. It seems scammers love to utilize fear tactics to scare people into surrendering their information.
