City of Boise Announces Major Changes to Public Pools Just 13 Days Into the Season
In April, the City of Boise shocked residents by announcing that they were opening four of their public pools. Just 13 days into the season, they're already changing the rules.
Borah Pool, Fairmont Pool, Ivywild Pool and the Natatorium opened to residents who have purchased a season swim pass on Friday, June 11. The pools have been limited to 50% capacity and guests were required to make reservations for their two hour swim session in advance.
Yesterday, the city announced that beginning today, Thursday, June 24, they are dropping that reservation requirement at all four of the pools and increasing capacity to 75%. The two hour time blocks will remain in place, but if you're a season pass holder you can just show up for the block you want to swim during. If you had a current reservation at one of the pools, it will still be honored.
If you're still a little uneasy around crowds and the capacity increase makes you nervous, the city revealed that the attendance has been much lower at Borah and Fairmont over the first two weeks of the season. If you want to swim during a peak time and enjoy a little more personal space, those are your best options.
Finally, the Boise Pools are experiencing the effects of the nationwide chlorine shortage so they'll be closing early on Sundays starting on June 27. They'll have to use a more labor intensive, alternate method of chlorinating the pools so there will be no 6-8 p.m. block on Sundays.
