The Boise Farmer's Market opens this weekend, and we'll be able to stock up on a bunch of great food at its peak freshness.  So what's going to be in season?

The Boise Farmers Market is moving from the old location at 10th and Grove to its new location at 1500 Shoreline Drive this season.  Saturday, April 6, is opening day.

The farmer's market is such a fun thing to browse on a Saturday (with coffee in hand), and we're glad it's back.  They'll have plenty of locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables for sale, and since the foods are based on our Idaho climate we'll get them at peak freshness.  The vendors will be selling pizza, granola, ciders, and wines too.

Some of the things that are in season in April include arugula, beef, broccoli, dried herbs, eggs, green onions, lettuce, kale, salmon, spinach, and rhubarb.  Hothouse tomatoes, lamb, and buffalo are peaking right now too, and the Boise Farmer's Market will have those available this Saturday.  Things like carrots, beets, blueberries, and celery will hit their peak this summer so we'll have to wait a few months on those.

Starting next weekend, April 13, we'll be able to hop on a big yellow school bus to go back and forth between farmer's markets.  The new "Market Bee" shuttle will be running from the Boise Farmer's Market on Shoreline Drive to Eighth Street in downtown Boise from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. each Saturday.  The shuttle is starting up to make it easy to get to Capital City Public Market so we can browse both markets.  The first day for Capital City Public Market is April 13th.

Boise Farmers Market will be open at 1500 Shoreline Drive Saturdays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. through Oct. 26.  And it's free to get in.
