Things just aren't normal these days with essentially every faucet of entertainment and nightlife shut down in an effort to "lower the curve" of coronavirus, or, COVID-19.

I don't remember the last time that I had an entire weekend off--and I'm willing to bet that a lot of the service industry folks I work with each weekend in downtown Boise and beyond have a hard time remembering their last full-weekend off as well.

I've been blown away by the amount of support that the Treasure Valley continues to show towards local businesses and organizations. It's part of the spirit within us here, it seems.  Keeping those businesses afloat as best we can is great for us all-- however, the life blood of those businesses are your favorite bartenders, servers, baristas, and so on.

You've got a favorite bar-- but what makes it your favorite? Odds are, it's the smiling face that makes your drink just right or greets you and makes you feel like a VIP as you get your night started. Workers from the service industry are unsung heroes of our fun experiences across the city.

I was really blown away by the awesome idea shared by a friend in the service industry and as the movement continues to grow, I hope that we can all come together to help these servers, bartenders, and baristas!

The concept lives on a Google Doc that is continually being updated with the names of local service industry workers and includes their place of work and their Venmo, PayPal, or CashApp usernames.

Believe it or not, that tip you leave them at the end of the night is crucial for making ends meet.  Just because you can't be out at the bar doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to leave a virtual tip for your favorites. You're not out and about in this climate--so toss a few dollars to one of or ALL OF your favorite bartenders. It makes a huge difference for our community as a whole--and of course, we're looking forward to seeing everyone back at work, hopefully, very soon.
