You know how I love good news stories of the day — I do one every day on my radio show — and I have a truly heart-warming story to share with you today.

About a year ago, Mary (dressed in a pink jacket) learned that her echocardiogram showed a significant obstruction. She feared she would need surgery (and all the risk and disruption that comes with it), but her team at High Desert Heart & Vascular suggested a new medication that they felt could do the trick.

And it has!

Mary says she's so grateful to her cardiologists for the life she has now, and she's also thankful for how smooth they made the whole treatment process. Not only were they so knowledgeable and personable that she felt like she could ask them any question, but they also treated her with care and respect every step of the way.

That personal approach to treatment is actually why they established their independent practice. These four heart surgeons had worked for a big hospital and wanted to get back the the basic reasons they became doctors; they prioritize patients and their providers so each patient receives compassionate care tailored just for them.

It turns out they weren't done with Mary, though. One of her bucket list dreams was to take a hot air balloon ride, and it just so happens the team at High Desert Heart & Vascular had extra balloon ride tickets for the Spirit of Boise Balloon Classic.

Due to the weather, Mary, her husband, and her friend Gail were limited to tethered rides on Friday but Mary found the experience unforgettable. The balloon was named "Orange" and was piloted by Mike Stone. Imagine soaring so high months after receiving potentially devastating news!

She's seen here with Dr. Fred Costello (far left); Rachel Waddle, High Desert Heart and Vascular Patient Coordinator (second from right); and Chris Kalish, Practice Administrator (far right):
