Boise State Football Set to Kickoff Earlier – Fans Rejoice
Not many people remember this but Boise State home football games after November 1st used to kickoff at 1:30 in the afternoon. That's when kickoffs were determined by weather and common sense, not TV dollars.
Those days have been long gone and recently Boise State fans have had to deal with 8:30 p.m. kickoffs that meant getting home at 1 a.m. and in many cases dealing with the worst weather of the day all because of TV cash.
Well the TV Cash isn't going away anytime soon but at least a couple of TV games will start at a reasonable hour. Case in point the Broncos conference season opener against New Mexico September 14 will air at 6 p.m. on ESPN.
Friday September 22nd on the Blue it's BSU-Virginia at 6 p.m. on ESPN or ESPN2.
There are still late games at BYU, Colorado State and San Diego State and other kickoff times still need to be determined but there is still a glimmer of hope with a pair of 6 p.m. starts.
Boise State athletic director Curt Apsey said he was very pleased the TV powers were able to accommodate the Broncos request for some earlier kickoffs. Apsey hopes that translates into fans in the seats at Albertson's Stadium.
Boise State kicks off the 2017 season Saturday September 2nd with Troy on the Blue but kickoff time is yet to be determined on the ESPN network.
