This week the United States Mint launched a new quarter coin featuring one of Idaho's well known wilderness areas.

The Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness is featured as part of the America the Beautiful Quarters Program from the Mint. The Idaho quarter is the final one to debut this year and the 50th coin in the program. On the quarter there is a drift boat headed down a river surrounded by trees and rock formations indicative of the Frank Church Wilderness.

The wilderness in central Idaho has deep canyons, rugged landscapes and two rivers, Main Salmon River and the Middle Fork of the Salmon River. The coins are part of a 12-year initiative that recognizes 56 national parks and public sites around the country. More coins are expected to be released next year and 2021, all are being released in the order the national sites were officially established. The coin was released during a special ceremony earlier this week with Idaho dignitaries including Idaho Representative Mike Simpson.
