Oh god. We're having mad flashbacks over here.

If you've been following the news as of late, you're sure to have run into stories about monkeypox making it's way across the U.S.

Before we dive in, what even is monkeypox? Per the CDC:

Monkeypox is a rare disease caused by infection with the monkeypox virus. Monkeypox virus is part of the same family of viruses as variola virus, the virus that causes smallpox. Monkeypox symptoms are similar to smallpox symptoms, but milder, and monkeypox is rarely fatal. Monkeypox is not related to chickenpox.

That sounds dangerous, and not something we want in the Gem State. Well, it's too late, because according to the CDC, there have now been three reported cases of monkeypox in Idaho.

How do you know if you have monkeypox, and what should you do if you develop symptoms? We turn to Dr. Christine Hahn:

We are reminding people to look out for new spots, ulcers, or blisters on any part of their body. If anyone suspects they might have monkeypox, particularly if they have recently had a new sexual partner, they should limit their contact with others and contact their healthcare provider as soon as possible--although please phone ahead before going in person.

Are you worried about monkeypox spreading across Idaho, or do you feel like this is getting blown out of proportion? Let's connect on Facebook and see what you're thinking.

As of the writing of this article, no vaccines for monkeypox have been distributed in Idaho.
