Nearly 2,300 children are reported missing in Idaho every year. It's a massive fear of mine to the point where I panic if he's in the bathroom at the store or in a different aisle. There are free kits to help parents be prepared.

McGruff Safe kits are available at no charge to provide confirmation of identity for your child.

Whenever an Amber Alert is issued, what goes through my mind are these things:

  • Do the parents have a current photo of their child?
  • Is there any way to ID the child outside of the photo?
  • Does the child know what to do or who to call if they have an opportunity?

Panic.

Right now, you can order a McGruff Safe Kids ID Kit for free. Five kits are being offered to each home and include:

  • A tear-out fingerprint card with fingerprint ink (it's child-safe)
  • McGruff the Crime Dog tear-out emergency numbers card
  • 9-1-1 instructions
  • Personal record card
  • DNA collection tips
  • Quizzes and games reinforcing the safety message

All you have to do is go to the McGruff Safe Kit website and fill out your information (not the child's information - I asked) in order for up to 5 kits to be delivered to your house. You'll receive an email from an Idaho representative who will arrange delivery of your kit(s).
