If you're reading this, then odds are you either:

  • Went to school in a state besides Idaho
  • Had some additional reading help after finishing school
  • Only here for the cute pictures and memes

Look, that's not us making a joke. Idaho is overall terrible when it comes to reading proficiency. We wish we were joking.

So, are you saying Idahoans can't read?

Um, kind of.

A recent study revealed that when it comes to reading proficiency amongst students across the country, Idaho comes in 38th place. If you know how many states there are in the U.S., then you also know this statistic isn't good at all for Idaho.

When it comes to math, Idaho performed slightly better, coming in at 30th in the country. Not impressive, to say the least.

So, what do we do as Idahoans to make sure our kids are at an age-appropriate reading level? We're not entirely sure. However, reading to your kids, checking up on their studies, and encouraging them to dive into books seems like a great jumping off point.

If you're not worried about how your kids are performing when it comes to reading, how do you feel about them being carted off to school on an all-electric school bus?

Apparently, a lot of parents are mighty peeved at this thought, and didn't waste anytime jumping into the comments section to share their thoughts.
