As we kick off the new work week, how many of you wish you could walk into your boss’s office and quit the job you're working in now?

It's not necessarily a bad job, but maybe you're working in an industry that you didn't picture yourself in at this stage in your life.  Tesa Christensen was in your shoes this time last year.  Tesa didn’t graduate from high school, but jumped into the work force as a stylist at a young age to help out her single mom.  Six months after her daughter was born, Tesa became a single mom herself.  She worked full time to support her daughter and take care of her mother, who had been diagnosed with lung cancer.  Her job as a stylist helped make ends meet, but it’s not what she saw herself doing long term.  Tesa always had the dream of working in the medical field as a medical assistant and we were excited to be a small part of making her dreams come true!

Tesa shared her story with us last year as part of our “Mom’s Next Move” contest with the College of Western Idaho and received a full year’s scholarship to jump start her journey into the healthcare field!

Like Tesa, so many of you have thought about going back to school, but something’s holding you back. Your list of reasons why you think you can't might look something like this:

  • I've been a stay at home mom for years, I don't know if I'd be successful getting back into a classroom.
  • Taking classes will take time away from my children.
  • I'm too old to go back to school.  My kids understand today's technology more than I do.
  • Our family doesn't have enough money for me to be able to afford school.

We want you to shred that list of reasons why you think you CAN'T, because we're teaming up with our friends from the College of Western Idaho to show you that you CAN! Mom's Next Move and the opportunity to win a full year’s scholarship to CWI is back!  We're giving another mom a chance to pursue a dream and feel empowered to begin that new career! Students just like you have shared their story and how they feel empowered after their experience at CWI, visit www.cwi.edu/BeMighty to hear real stories from real students!

We spent a lot of time getting to know CWI's students. So many of them are rockstar parents who are making school and their family responsibilities work together.  A big part of that is because CWI offers a really flexible path to your dreams! Several moms say they worked out their class schedule to take classes while their children are at school and that the family enjoys homework time together every night. Others say their class work has actually taught them some valuable skills that they've been able to incorporate into their current jobs or households.  Many had the same doubts you do about being "too old" or too far behind to successfully get a degree, but say it hasn't been a problem  because the teaching staff at CWI will go the extra mile and spend as much extra time with their students as they need.

When I asked the students to give people who were on the fence about going back to school a bit of advice, they all agreed on one thing: At no stage are you tool old or far behind to make a change and do something that inspires you. In fact, Tesa even wrote that in her submission for Mom’s Next Move last year!

Ready to take that leap of faith? Do it now, because you could've been finished with your program in the time you spent thinking about it! Start writing that next chapter by giving yourself a chance to be considered for the scholarship through the form below:
