New Boise Library Branch Now Open
The new library at Bown Crossing is nestled in with bike racks and pedestrian paths, and it’s not far from the Greenbelt. It’s green to the core when it opens up later this week, and it will even including a reading room with a fireplace.
The Idaho Statesman says the Bown Crossing Library branch is “green” inside and out, meaning the landscaping uses plants and other elements that don’t need much water, and they’ll filter run-off water from the parking lot.
A special coating on the windows inside will keep the heat out during the summer, and the interior lights will adjust based on how much light comes through the windows. Wouldn’t you love to have that technology at the house? Oh, and the ceiling in the new space is insulated with recycled cotton blue jeans.
The Bown Cross Library branch is costing about $8.6 million, and it’s been in the works for seven years. It’s also going to be a display space for local public art.
Oh, and they’ll have books! About 40,000 of them, plus the usual story times, game nights, and special speakers.
The newest Boise Library branch is near Riverside Elementary, opened up on Thursday, May 18th, and will be open Tuesday through Sunday. It’s closed on Mondays.
