Boise Has Extra Cops On Patrol. Here’s What They’re Looking For

One should always use caution while driving. Mostly because it keeps you and others safe on the road, and it'll prevent you from getting pulled over and possibly receiving a traffic citation (or worse).

If you weren't abiding by that before, perhaps now would be a good time to start using a little extra care. Trust us. You don't want to be the punchline of this blog.

State and local police in Idaho (and Boise) are stepping up their patrols now through Labor Day. In case you haven't guessed yet, it's an attempt to try and curb drunk or impaired driving in the Gem State. Jordan Plascencia, ISP District 3 trooper, explains:

One of the most difficult parts of our job is responding to a DUI collision where someone’s life is altered forever. To see the deadly consequences of impaired driving is heartbreaking, and we want to educate the public about the danger. We are dedicated to enforcing laws that protect the public from those posing a danger to others.

Don't think it's a big deal? Over 1,700 traffic accidents were caused by impaired driving in Idaho last year, along with 108 deaths. Matthew Smith, Headquarters patrol captain, lays out the facts:

Impaired driving, from alcohol or drugs, is illegal in every state. Not only do you put your safety at risk, but you are a danger to others. These types of collisions are completely preventable. Don’t be the reason a trooper delivers tragic news to another Idaho family. Plan ahead, use good judgment, and never get behind the wheel if impaired.

Be safe out there. Call a ride, get a rideshare service, or even rollerblade home. Just get home safe.
