First off, getting fired is no fun. It alters your life in an instant, immediately puts you in a bad situation, and of course, can hurt even the cleanest of reputations. That being said, Idaho is a "work-at-will" state, and anything can technically happen.

What does "work-at-will" actually mean?

It essentially means that an employer can choose to let you go for almost anything... keyword: almost. According to the Idaho Department of Labor:

...there is no set length for an employment relationship and either the employer or the employee may end it at any time, with or without notice; with or without cause.

There are some things that employers have to abide by especially if there is a union involved.

If there is an employer policy, employment contract or union agreement, the employment relationship may be subject to the terms and conditions of that policy, contract or agreement. The policies, contracts and agreements set up and enforced by the employer, must be in compliance with Idaho’s wage payment laws.

So, what are some ridiculous reasons you can be fired in Idaho? We came up with a few petty reasons but we should let it be known -- we're not condoning all of these reasons. Bad habits are bad habits and employees who make repeated (legit) mistakes should be reprimanded according to a company's handbook, which by the way, could be used against a company if a fired employee was so inclined.

It would be a legal battle, but someone could likely defend themselves in court if they were fired for "always cooking fish in the breakroom" or something that wasn't listed in company policy. But that's not fun to talk about... let's look at some of the most ridiculous reasons you could technically be fired in Idaho.
