I recently saw someone post on social media that the elevation of Boise was around 2,730 feet above sea level. So naturally, I wanted to fact-check and learned that the Boise airport is 2,871 MSL while the surrounding area is between 2,500 and 2,850 MSL according to Weather.gov. But when I was looking for the highest point in Idaho, I came across what I realized to be Idaho's only glacier.

Introducing Borah Peak AKA Mount Borah

Borah Peak or Mount Borah is located in the Lost River Range in East Central Idaho. Interestingly enough, Borah Peak is also home to Idaho's only glacier that's fittingly called, Borah Glacier. According to the United States Geological Survey, the glacier can be found on the northern side of Borah.

According to records from NationalMap.gov, Borah Glacier became official on February 11, 2021. The elevation of the glacier is just a shade under 11,000 feet.

Wait, if Borah Glacier is not the highest point... where is it?

According to the Bureau of Land Management, the highest point on Borah Peak is around 12,655 feet above sea level, and just to the east, you'll find Borah Glacier. I feel Borah Glacier proves that Idaho is home to many hidden treasures but unfortunately, the mountains of Borah Peak also harbor some dark secrets.
