Come On, Boise! We’re Supposed To Be Above Vandalism!
Let's get this part out of the way right away: this isn't about picking sides; this is about doing the right thing, the American way.
Harrison Boulevard's Pride Flags Are Vandalized
As reported by Idaho News, the pride flags on Harrison Boulevard have been vandalized for the fifth straight year.
Five. Straight. Years.
Look, we get it - we don't all share the same beliefs, like at all. But, that's okay! That's what we mean when we say "the American Way" - freedom of speech, freedom of expression.

It's one thing if a flag with hateful messages is being flown, you know, like something racist or grossly inappropriate? But these are pride flags.
Let that sink in for a minute.
"But I don't like what that flag represents!"
You don't have to, just don't look at it. You're allowed to have an opinion, and that's what makes Boise and of course, America great.
Back when we shared the story about Old State Saloon hosting Hetero Awesome Fest, we also received some messages condemning us for promoting their event. We didn't write and share it out of hate or spite, we wrote about it because it's happening in our community, and there are people who like different things, even events at OSS. We also believe OSS has the right to free speech as well! If you don't like what they're doing with Hetero Awesome Fest... don't go.

The same goes for those who choose to fly a pride flag; it is their right to free speech, and if someone doesn't like it, just don't acknowledge it. You don't have to vandalize, we're better than that.
It really is that simple for both sides of any belief. We have enough division around us already, and it's not always political. Some of us have drama and division at the very places we work. Why would any of us want to antagonize and attack another's beliefs because they don't align with our own?
There Are Countless Good People In Idaho
Again, you're allowed to believe what you want because this is America. We also firmly believe that those responsible for the vandalism over the last five years can change their ways because there are good people in Boise and the Treasure Valley.
Let's continue to be better and respect each other's differing beliefs.
We all have enough on our plates already, don't we?
