Ten years ago the cosmos created a monster, me. I gleaned my first potato field.

I did get with the farmer who had the field and asked for permission, which he really appreciated.  It also about floored him when I showed up with a tractor and a great big white poodle.  I drove home on my tractor pulling a small trailer with about 500lbs of spuds.  So I over did it a little, but I did share with everyone who wanted potatoes.

Coming up Friday and Saturday, October second and third, we are going to have the 5th annual Kevin and Brenda's Christmas Wish Potato Gleaning.

We have a great field, 78 acres of #1 Russets.  I stopped by yesterday to check out the field and timed myself to see how many potatoes I could grab in 60 seconds. Here's a picture of what I got, just over 10lbs in one minute.

The potato field is on the corner of Chinden and Linder, you will enter off Chinden.  Times will be 3-7pm on Friday (October 2) and 8am-7pm on Saturday (October 3).

If you want to fill your pantry or just want to "glean" potatoes because you've never done it, this is fun way to do it.

A few tips for "Gleaning potatoes."  Be ready to get dirty since you will be in a farmers field with dirt and potatoes.  You don't need anything to just go out and find the potatoes, but for best results, bring work gloves, a shovel (not a snow shovel), maybe a rake and plastic totes are best.  That's about it.

We will be asking for a suggested donation of $10 per carload of people, with 100% of the proceeds going to 107.9 Lite Fm's Christmas wish.

I really look forward to seeing you at the 5th Annual Christmas Wish Potato Gleaning.
