In the middle of our Christmas gift-giving, my mom admitted that she bought my step-dad a Kindle because she felt so guilty. It was his guilt gift! Here's the situation:

About summertime, my mom saw a deal on Amazon Kindles and since she loved mine, she decided to buy one. At that time, she and her husband were on a really tight budget and other expenses were more of a priority so a Kindle wasn't in play. My mom got one anyway but didn't open it when it arrived. She felt so guilty about putting out the money for a Kindle rather than paying for something they needed to pay for.

Months passed before my mom even took the Kindle out of it's packaging. When she finally did, it was at my house where she wouldn't get "caught". The more time that went by, the harder it got to admit it to my step-dad. It's like when you meet someone and don't catch their name. Only a certain amount of time can pass before it's super awkward that you don't actually know their name. This was just like that situation.

Finally, on Christmas morning when my step-dad opened his brand new Amazon Kindle (that he didn't ask for), my mom told him about her purchase and that she'd been waiting for this long to actually use it. He didn't even flinch. He didn't care that she had it.

She totally put herself through this massive internal drama when it wasn't a big deal at all. Now, my step-dad has a guilt Kindle and he loves it.

Have you ever guilt gifted anyone?
