It's one of those rights of passage and something that can cause some stress (and at times hurt feelings).  Prom.  What if students didn't choose their own dates?

There are a few schools who have gotten attention this year for their systems where prom dates are selected for students, but one in Illinois has been doing prom differently since 1926.

Aquin High School in Freeport, Illinois has taken away the stress, hurt feelings, and competition.  Instead, boys draw names of girls at random.  The boys are in the library, the girls are waiting in the gym.  Then the boys come to gym, perform a skit, and reveal who their prom date will be.

The school says it creates stronger bonds among students and avoids anyone being left out.

So what do you think?  Would this system be welcome at schools here in the Treasure Valley?  Do you think it's overstepping on the part of the school?
