This is what Ava's Grandmother DeAnna shared with us when she nominated her:

"Ava is my 9 year old granddaughter with a huge heart for others. This year she has given many many hours of community service. She cut out and sewed 22 bears and dinosuars for an orphanage in Sierra Leone for victims of the Ebola outbreak. She made a cake and donated it to her school for a fundraiser, then ran the cake walk station. She donated 8-10 recesses to assist her librarian with end of the year inventory and clean up. She organized books and cleaned the shelves. Ava went through several boxes of her own baby clothes and organized them by size and donated them to the Women's and Children's Alliance. On her birthday, Ava spent the day prepping and painting a house for "Paint the town". Ava joined the Star Fire Department in the fill the boot campaign and collected donations for 4 hours for Muscular Dystrophy. She has a big heart. She sat for hours helping her great grandm other, helping her eat and telling her stories shortly before her death. Ava has been a very busy girl this year and has learned a lot about giving service and learning that she could do hard things that she didn't know she could do. She is an incredible girl at such a young age! I can't wait to see what she will do and become in the coming years. I'm so very proud of her!"
