I’ve Realized How Lucky I Am To Call This Amazing Woman Mom
Happy Mother's Day to all the moms who make our world a better place. I'm really fortunate to have an incredibly caring and loving mom (who even does my yard work).
In retrospect, I was always very lucky to have parents who not only decided to be involved in my life, but also cherished the chance to do so. So much so, that at times, when I was younger, I wished my mom wouldn't pay quite as close attention to my grades, school projects, and extra curricular activities.
I was doomed from the beginning though since my mom is a teacher and knew way more about what should or should not be coming home and happening at school. Getting away with not doing homework, or hoping that my teacher wouldn't know my mom on a first-name basis was just not going to happen.
As I grew up, it became clear that my mom and I have very different personalities, ways of showing affection, and methods of expressing ourselves. Even so, there has never been a moment when I didn't know how deeply I was loved. I hope she would say the same thing.
Over the past 18 months as I went through separation and divorce, my mom has repeatedly stepped up to join my son and me for vacations, events, and just to drop everything and FaceTime with us. It's been so helpful and appreciated.
I'm very fortunate. She's always been someone people admire and they don't even have the complete picture I do. That picture has made it very clear to me, I'm lucky to get to call her Mom.
