Hello? Hello?! Is anyone out there?

At 12:18 p.m., many phones around the Treasure Valley received a "Presidential Alert" to their cell phones reading "This is A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed." FEMA and the Department of Homeland Security did a really good job of letting Americans know the alert was coming.  The test was originally scheduled to take place two weeks ago, but due to Hurricane Florence and the need to get out real emergency information to people living in the area affected by the storm, the decision was made to push back the test until today.

If you spend any amount of time on Twitter, you'll quickly realize how unpopular the idea of a "Presidential Alert" is. I'm gonna take a wild guess and say that the people who absolutely wanted nothing to do with the alert, have not watched the season premiere of American Horror Story: Apocalypse.  A nearly identical alert system was used in this season's opening scene.

So...yeah...if we're about descend into nuclear winter because of a ballistic missile attack, I certainly want to know about that.  In the event that the end of the world as we know it is near, I don't care who's sitting behind the desk in the Oval Office.  Push the darn button. Tell me the missile's coming!

That scene is why I was excited to see the "Presidential Alert" in action...only my phone didn't get it! I went back and double checked the settings on my phone and I most definitely have  all of the emergency alerts I can possibly receive turned on. Apparently in the event of impending nuclear winter, I'm going to be one of the first people dead!

Reports say that almost 75% of cell phones in the country were included in the test so I'm trying to find a connection between the 25% of people in our region that didn't get the alert either! If you didn't get it either post up and answer these questions:

  • What cell phone carrier do you have?
  • Is your phone set up to receive AMBER Alerts and Emergency Alerts?
  • Was your phone on silent or DO NOT DISTURB? Which setting was it on at 12:18 p.m. MT?

Let's see if we can figure this out! Meanwhile, here's some hilarious reactions to NOT getting the alert that I saw on Twitter to lighten up that whole "end of the world" thing.
