I inadvertently found some new unexpected motivation to keep working on my abdominal muscles. Of course there’s always been the fear of the dreaded muffin top to keep me crunching away. But I accidentally discovered a new use for those torso muscles when I was pedaling my bike on the Boise Greenbelt.
I had just emerged from a swarm of gnats and as I was taking a deep breath of air I inhaled a large fly! I tried spitting the fly out, but it had managed to get about halfway down my throat where I could feel it skittering around…ewww! So gross!!! I couldn’t take another deep breath for fear of pushing the fly deeper down my throat. So, I had to resort to doing something like a self Heimlich sort of maneuver by contracting my abs to force what little air I did have in my lungs to push out the fly. After a few forceful contractions – Success! Up and out came the fly and I never stopped pedaling!
