Over the past year, there has been much discussion about Boise's Gowen Field becoming the new home for approximately 20 F-35 fighter jets.  Today, that is no longer a possibility.

The F-35 mission that would have been at Gowen Field will instead be based in Montgomery, Alabama with the 187th Fighter Wing.  The Governor of Alabama made the announcement this morning.

In addition to Gowen Field and Montgomery, bases in Florida, Michigan, and Wisconsin were also hoping to be named the new home of the program.

The F-35 would have replaced the A-10 fighter jets that currently call Gowen Field home (and were a major draw during the Gowen Thunder Airshow this summer).

Civic leaders were hopeful that Boise would land the program, seeing economic upsides for the region and helping strengthen the future of Gowen Field.  There was more controversy about residents over noise.
