LITE-FM's Christmas Wish is back, thanks to our friends at Pioneer Federal Credit Union. Our 18th wish went to Elbie, who's having a senior experience radically different from his classmates.

Being a senior in high school can be stressful enough between trying to score high enough on your ACT or SAT to turn heads in your dream school's admission office and write a compelling enough application essay for them to offer you a place in their incoming class. And don't forget staying focused enough on your actual school work to keep that GPA you worked so hard for up so that it appears on your final transcript.

Now imagine finding out that your dad has Stage 4 cancer and lost his job just weeks before the holidays on top of all of that. Dad's cancer is spreading quickly and has made it's way from his bladder to his liver and he's not sure whether or not he wants to go through chemo to treat it. His mom also lives with some health challenges that prevents her from working outside of the home. That's what Elbie's senior year experience is like and his friends are heartbroken watch such a smart, driven young man have to go through it all and grow-up to be the man of the house a little sooner than he expected.

Through it all, he's stepped into that role gracefully and is getting some help from his little sister who's in 8th grade.  There's no doubt that after 2018 through them a curve ball, this family deserves some good news and a little hope for the holidays.

That's where we stepped in and loaded up Jeff Connell and helpers Betsy and Rachel, into the Team Subaru of Nampa Forester Delivery Sleigh!  We wanted to provide the family with some quality time together to build memories with dad so our friends from Wahooz and Pinz and the Idaho Botanical Gardens stepped up big time with invites to check out the New Year's Eve Party and Winter Garden aGlow, respectively. Then Elbie has some options, he can treat his little sister and parents to a movie and free tubing at Eagle Island State Park or use the passes to thank the friends who care so much about him that they nominated him for a Christmas Wish.  Finally, we know that college applications aren't cheap, so we gave Elbie a $200 gift card to buy gifts for the family and his little sister a $50 gift card to my favorite place to shop when I was in 8th grade, Aeropostale.
