If you're curious about why most people in your family are tall or short, or have high cheek bones the same nose, a genealogy workshop this weekend may shed some light.

And it's free!

The Daughters of the American Revolution will host the workshop this Sunday, and they'll offer tips and tricks about how to use public records to lead us to interesting facts about family histories.  We've got to know where to look to trace the family tree, and they'll point us in the right direction.

My dad is fascinated by genealogy, and he has been known to spend hours on a Sunday afternoon researching our family's roots on websites that charge yearly subscriptions.  He's had a lot of success and discovered some interesting characters along the way, but it hasn't been free.  This event on Sunday is a money-saver, especially for those of us just starting out on the quest to know if our British accents that sometimes pop out at parties are legit or not.

During his journey tracing the family tree, my dad discovered that one of our ancestors had been part of the Salem Witch trials, but was not among those killed.  That might have changed the shape of our family tree.  You never know what you're going to discover with these things.

If you want to check out the workshop this weekend, it's going to be at the Main Boise Public Library on Sunday, October 8th, from 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. in the Bingham Room. It's open to the first 50 attendees.
